Bonsai Root Stand Carving Workshop with Sean Smith
Create your own handcrafted bonsai root stand under the guidance of renowned woodcraft artist Sean Smith. Working from a prepared wood blank, you’ll learn carving techniques and design principles while shaping a unique display stand for your bonsai or accent plant. Sean will provide demonstrations and personalized instruction throughout the workshop.
Later in the evening at 7:00 pm, Sean will lead our September Monthly Meeting with a demonstration on bonsai display, which is open to all.

Materials
Sean will provide the wooden stand blanks and carving bits. Participants should bring their own Dremel tool and eye protection. A limited number of Dremel tools will be available to borrow from Doug’s collection on a first come, first served basis.
Participation
Limited to 8 participants.
Silent observers are welcome at no cost but are asked to remain silent, as questions and guidance are reserved for workshop participants. Please register as a complimentary observer to help us plan for attendance.

Sean Smith

Sean Smith is an internationally recognized bonsai and suiseki artist based in Marysville, Pennsylvania. Through Custom Oriental Wood-craft, he creates handcrafted bonsai display tables and carves daiza for collectors around the world. With more than 20 years of experience, Sean has studied extensively in Japan, earned numerous awards, and is widely regarded as one of the leading daiza carvers outside Japan.
